Grand Piano Clamp/clip-On Lamps

Proper lighting is essential when playing or practicing the piano.  Piano Lamps are specially designed to allow for flexibility in directing the light exactly where you need it, on the music and the piano keys. The piano lamps by House of Troy are engineered with musicians in mind. They are solidly built, offer flexibility in directing light, come in many models, styles, and designs, and many are lightweight and portable, allowing musicians to transport them to performances and rehearsals. 

Grand piano lamps come in different variations, offering musicians a choice as to where to place the lamp on the piano. The most popular style is the grand piano clamp lamp or clip-on style lamp. This type of lamp clamps onto the sheet-music holder (music desk) with small thumbscrews to hold it in place. The inside of the clamp is lined with felt to protect the piano from being scratched. The on/off switch is conveniently located either in the cord (6″ from the clamp) or on the shade itself for easy access.  

The width of sheet music and music books usually ranges from 12″ – 18″. The shade sizes of grand clamp lamps range from 10″ to 22″ allowing them to provide a wide enough dispersion of light to cover the entire width of an open music book. The shades of these lamps swivel to help fine- tune the light directly onto the music and keys. The flexible shades also cut out glare associated with light by keeping the light from shining directly into your eyes.

 One of the advantages of the clip-on style grand piano lamp is that the light is directly on top of the music, shining straight down upon it, illuminating the music and the keys. Another advantage is that the lamp is not resting on the piano taking up room, which allows you to put other things on the piano such as metronomes, music books, and other items.  And still another advantage is that these lamps are lightweight and portable, so they can be transported to rehearsals and performances. They also work on music stands, and in any other area that they could be clamped onto.

These clamp style lamps are available with different types of lighting technology giving musicians even more choices.  Some use incandescent lighting, while others use fluorescent bulbs, and still others use LED lighting technology. They all provide plenty of light to clearly read your sheet music or music book, and they reduce eye-strain associated with improper focused lighting. Led grand piano lamps have become very popular lately because of their energy efficiency and long lasting bulb life.
